Paykan - This is Iran's national car. Originally manufactured by a privately held company named "Iran National", Paykan has realized the vision that Adolf Hitler had for the Volks Wagen! The company's post-Islamic Revolution name is "Iran Khodro" (translation: "Iran Self Propelled"). A good majority of sedans in the streets are Paykans. The Paykan production line was imported from the United Kingdom and based on a 1960's Hillman design. It is still being manufactured with the same general body shape. However, the economic realities (and necessities) of post-revolution Iran have forced the production of Paykans with several different engines and minor changes have been introduced in the exterior and interior. Iran Khodro has distributed photos of a modern Paykan for release in 2002.
